New ferry route to connect capital Dili to Oecusse enclave and Ataúro Recently, the Republic of Timor-Leste and Damen Shipyards Group signed a contract agreeing provision of a new RoPax Ferry 6716. The vessel will operate a route between the Timor-Leste capital Dili, the Oecusse enclave and the island of Ataúro, providing regular transportation of passengers, vehicles and goods on the north coast of the island.

On Friday 18 October 2019, renewables service vessel (RSV) Isle of Jura was named at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld in The Netherlands. Isle of Jura is a newbuild vessel, constructed at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld, and is the second vessel built to a new Damen Renewables Service Vessel design. The RSV was commissioned by Seafast Marine for use in the offshore and onshore wind industries.

Heavy-lift jack-up vessel Innovation, one of DEME’s DP2 installation vessels, left Damen Verolme Rotterdam shipyard in early September 2019 following a major refit. Innovation spent several months in the Verolme shipyard undergoing renewal of its aft leg sections and an overhaul of its jacking motors.

In August 2019 Damen Shipyards Group signed a contract with SAAM Towage for the delivery of an ASD Tug 2813 to SAAM Mexico for operations in the port of Veracruz. This order is the latest milestone in a business relationship spanning several decades and involving numerous vessels.

The InvaSave mobile ballast water treatment system from Damen Green Solutions has demonstrated beyond doubt its capability to help ships meet the incoming D2 standard. All vessels will be required to comply with the standard which came into force on September 8th this year. This summer the InvaSave crew teamed up with local service provider Tradebe Santander (Tradebe Company) to receive ballast water from a tanker in Gijon.

On 15 May 2019, Damen Shipyards Group and De Beers Marine Namibia (Pty) Ltd participated in a special steel cutting ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on a new offshore vessel. In February 2019, De Beers Marine Namibia awarded a contract to Damen to build a new crawler diamond recovery vessel for offshore operations in Namibia. At 177 metres (577 feet) long, the new vessel will be slightly larger than the current largest vessel in the De Beers Marine Namibia fleet, Mafuta.

EMAR Offshore Services, a Netherlands-based dedicated maritime service company, welcomed a new vessel to its fleet. The Damen ASD Tug 2811, named E-TWO, was ordered in November 2018 with a special request for the installation of an additional FiFi1 system, aft winch and hydraulic crane. This ASD Tug 2811, one of Damen Shipyards Group’s ‘next-generation’ harbour tugs, will be deployed for assisting in the berthing and unberthing of industrial vessels in major ports.

Trials see new vessel ready for operations in Canada Sea Legend Pilotage’s current aluminium pilot vessels can reach speeds of 20 knots. The new Damen vessels are based on a composite FRP hull. The reduced weight of this not only allows the vessels to reach 29 knots, it also reduces fuel consumption significantly, considerably lowering both operating costs and emissions.

Arriva Danmark has extended the requirements of its contract with Damen Shipyards Group in order to account for longer ferry routes in the city of Copenhagen. Arriva originally contracted Damen to deliver five fully-electric Damen Ferry 2306 E3 vessels to cover passenger routes in the central metropolitan area of Copenhagen. Since agreement of the contract in July 2018, Danish public transport agency Movia has extended the intended routes of its ferry service to the port area by roughly 50%.
